Solidarity Button Campaign Underway at BWH
Posted on 9.19.08
Solidarity: unity that produces or is based on community of interests, objectives and standards.
The nurses at BWH are some of the best nurses in the state and perhaps the world. Our reputation for being strong patient advocates is no secret and we are proud of it. However, we have a nursing administration that does not support or share our commitment to our patients by undermining safe appropriate staffing. This problem has risen to a crisis level at BWH and it is time for it to change.
As a show of solidarity, we have begun a button campaign and are urging all union nurses to show their support for each other by wearing one during your shift. These buttons will be available next week and throughout contract negotiations. Please contact any member of the MNA Committee to get yours!
It is important for all nurses to know their rights under the federal law that protects your right to wear buttons while at work. NO nurse manager or administrator can ask you or force you to remove the button; to do so would be against the law and would violate your protected union rights.
