Nurses in Action

As a result of your actions, the following occurred:

  • The comp/blitz day for the night staff will occur on the night shift, allowing nurses uninterrupted personal lives.
  • Healthstream can be completed on your unit in an area conducive to learning, without a patient assignment or you can be paid for doing it at home.
  • The OR nursing staff repeatedly struggled with OR management to obtain specific safety equipment. After two visits from OSHA and a DPH investigation, lead aprons were finally made available to all OR personnel – physicians and techs as well as the nursing staff.
  • BWH nurses held their ground regarding floating to units where they felt that they were not safe to care for patients. Nurses are now empowered to say no to unsafe floating practices.
  • CWN nurses got the several year-old issue of mold in patient’s bathrooms dealt with - remodeling has begun: wall cabinets in the same bathrooms are a source of head trauma to staff and visitors; this issue was brought by staff nurses to management’s attention and is being addressed.
