New Sick Time Policy Unveiled

This past week a new sick time policy was unveiled by management and some nurse managers couldn’t wait to try and threaten nurses with it. Kim Ternavan, Nurse Manager on 7AB, made out a list of alleged abusers. She told staff that, "The union is going to hate this." The thing the union hates are nurse managers that get such disturbing pleasure out of hurting their staff.

Nurses who are sick should not be intimidated, threatened or challenged on why they are sick. Some managers are trying to put in place a system that you must disclose why you are out sick and that she/he can call you back and question you about your illness. This is a direct violation of the contract and will not be tolerated.

Each and every sick time discipline must be grieved. You should not have to be sick over calling in sick. As real nurses we understand that if you are ill you should not come to work because other staff can get sick and our patients are also placed at risk. We are not responsible for the hospital staffing so tightly that a sick call cannot be covered.
