  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can a Variable Hours RN be flexed for part of a shift?

A: No. A Variable Hours RN may be "flexed" down one (1) full shift per week (8 or 12 hours). Also, Variable Hours RNs may not be sent home after working any part of a shift.

What are the cancellation times for nurses in Variable Hours and Per Diem positions?

A: A Variable Hours RN must be cancelled at least one hour and forty-five minutes before the starting time of the shift. A Per Diem RN must be cancelled at least two (2) hours before the starting time of the shift. Failure to give two hours notice to a per diem will result in payment to the per diem of $70. Once any nurse arrives at the hospital, her/his shift cannot be cancelled.

I've been asked to meet with my Nurse Manager. Do I need to call an MNA Committee member?

A: It depends. Ask your Nurse Manager what the meeting is about and whether it is an investigatory meeting (one that could lead to discipline). If the meeting is investigatory in nature, you ABSOLUTELY should call one the MNA Committee members to accompany you. The meeting should be scheduled during work time and must be re- scheduled if an MNA Committee member is not available to accompany you.
